He described the current progress of the project as 71% and added: "This project aims to evaluate and exploit the geological reservoir northwest of Sabalan, localize technical knowledge of design, construction and operation of geothermal power plants, as well as capacity building and empowerment of skilled manpower are on the agenda."

Iran's first geothermal power plant is being built 25 km south of Meshginshahr by the thermal power plants holding company.
